How to Follow Up With Roofing Leads So They Actually Book

Speed-to-lead, a simple multi-touch sequence, and call/text scripts for converting roofing website leads into booked inspections.

Most roofing companies do not have a lead problem. They have a follow-up problem. Here is a system that fits between running the business and being on a roof.

Speed is the whole game

Response time is the single biggest predictor of whether a web lead books. A lead contacted within 5 minutes converts far better than one contacted in an hour, and after 24 hours you are mostly calling to hear "we already went with someone." Homeowners contact multiple roofers. First real conversation usually wins.

If you cannot answer in 5 minutes yourself, set up an auto-text that goes out instantly: "This is Brian at [Company] — got your roof request for [address]. I can call in the next few minutes or later today, which works?" That holds the lead.

A 7-touch sequence over 14 days

  1. Minute 0: auto-text (above) + attempt a call.
  2. Hour 1: second call attempt, leave a voicemail naming the address.
  3. Day 1: text with a scheduling link or two concrete time options.
  4. Day 3: call, then email with what to expect at the inspection and a couple of local references.
  5. Day 5: text — "still worth me taking a look?"
  6. Day 9: email with a relevant photo set (a similar roof you did nearby).
  7. Day 14: "closing the file" text — this one gets more replies than any of the middle touches.

Scripts

First call, they answer: "Hi [name], it's Brian with [Company] — you ran a quote on our site for [address], the [material] range. I've got your roof measurements pulled up. The reason I'm calling is the online number is a ballpark from satellite; I'd want to get up there and check the decking and flashing before I put a real price on it. I could swing by [day] morning or [day] afternoon — which is better?"

Voicemail: keep it under 20 seconds, say your name, your company, the property address, and one specific time you will try again.

Day 14 text: "Hi [name] — I don't want to keep bugging you. Should I close out the file on [address], or is a roof still on the list this year?"

What makes the calls easier

A lead that arrives with the address, the roof size, and the exact price range the homeowner already saw is a warm call. You are not asking "what can I help you with" — you are picking up a conversation they started. Tools that capture the quote (instead of just a name) hand you that context on every lead.

Track three numbers

If lead-to-booked is low, it is almost always speed or persistence, not lead quality.

Frequently asked questions

How many times should I follow up with a roofing lead?

Around 7 touches over about 2 weeks, mixing calls, texts, and email. Most bookings that are not immediate come from touch 4 or later.

Call or text first?

Both, immediately. An instant auto-text holds the lead while you get to a phone; the call is what books the inspection.
